CHAMOIS (Rupicapra rupicapra)

Hunting Season:     Year Round
Prime Hunting:      April - July

A fully- grown Chamois, reaches a height of about 2 ˝ feet and weighs about 120 lb. Both males and females have horns, which are slightly curled backwards with the female’s horns being slimmer than the male counterpart. In summer the Chamois' pelt is a straw colour and towards winter their coat changes to dark brown. They have a distinct white face with pronounced black stripes below the eyes, a white backside and a black dorsal strip.

With exceptional eyesight and agile movement the Chamois are a challenging hunt requiring stalk hunting strategies.  They are creatures of habit and routine and Stu-e and Judy know their feeding trails and grounds.

Chamois are able to be hunted year round however capes are best from December to August. Heli-assist can be used and is usually preferable as their terrain is more easily accessed by helicopter. For Hunters that prefer hunting on foot, will require extra time for success.
